Oso Sweet Onions
For many decades Oso Sweet OnionsTM is the leading winter sweet onion in the USA. In 1995 Oso Sweet was the first sweet onion on the European market imported by TOP Onions.....the beginning of a successful campaign.
Sweet onions are much milder and sweeter in taste as the regular onions. This is due to the high sugar content and low pungency. The sweet onion is appreciated by the consumer due to it's pleasant taste and nice way of cooking. This appreciation by the consumer was the base of the European success for Oso Sweet.
Oso Sweet Onions are grown in Chile at the slopes of the Andes mountains where good clean irrigation water is available. Here the special soil and climate combined with short daylight and long cold nights are the most ideal conditions for good quality sweet onions. This only when you have the right seed of course...!
Oso Sweet is harvested in December, graded, packed and individually stickered by our Chilean partners Propal and shipped to Europe where the first onions arrive just after New years day in Rotterdam. TOP stores the onions carefully under special conditions and in close cooperation with the Oso Sweet European marketing office the onions are delivered to several exclusive importers throughout Europe till the month of May.
